Damien McCloud has called San Francisco’s South Beach home for 15+ years. His career spans corporate roles with innovative, award-winning companies (T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless, Toyota Motors, RadiumOne, BlueSky) and two decades as an innovative commercial film maker. Later he leaned into directing and producing local and national ad campaigns for tech giants and boutique ad-tech firms.
“I am a prototype in motion, always listening, iterating with evolving ideas into real experiences I can share with my community.”
In 2017, after a serious car accident and a stand-up paddle incident in Hawaii, he searched for a way to move with less pain and more purpose. He found it on a waterbike. Within a year—after logging countless hours on a custom Schiller waterbike his neighbors and fellow cyclists encouraged him to program rides launching from South Beach Harbor. Spin Outside was born, evolving into SpinOut Fitness and most recently SpinOut Yacht Club.
“Waterbiking is a fast, fun, safe alternative to kayaking and stand-up-paddleboarding stay high, dry, and smiling.”
SpinOut operates with formal approval from the Port of San Francisco and has been inspected and approved by the USCG. Since 2018, the team has hosted thousands of riders with a 100% incident-free record, earning recognition from NBC, ABC, San Francisco Magazine, Marin Living, and more. In February 2020, the City and Port of San Francisco issued permits for SpinOut’s outdoor fitness and recreation operations, and the company has continued to expand programming across the Bay.
“Access to the water shouldn’t be a rare luxury; it could be an empowerment pathway to health, community, and belonging.”
Damien’s coaching build confidence and blends posture, breath, and efficient technique with environmental literacy; tides, currents, wind, and real-world seamanship. His framework draws from his love of the ocean, yoga, meditation, group fitness and strength training to create what he calls “moving meditation”: a focused, joyful state where your Body, the Bike, and the Bay are totally in sync.
“When body, bike, and Bay align, effort turns to ease—and movement becomes meditation.”
Looking ahead, Damien is building SpinOut Yacht Club, a nonprofit initiative to widen access to the water for local residents through sponsored and free programming, modeled after other beloved civic amenities that offer free community days. The vision: more health, more connection, and more belonging, right here in San Francisco.
“Strength is technique plus awareness—learn the tides, respect the wind, and your courage will carry you farther than speed ever will.”
